If You Could Talk to Your Younger Self, What Career Advice Would You Have?
Area Youth Get Advice from Specialized Experts
For Immediate Release/July 24, 2016
COLUMBUS, GA, July 22, 2016, 25 youth participants ranging from age 11 to 22 met at the Columbus Library on Macon Road from 2-4pm for a free Career Sneak Peek hosted by the P.U.S.H. organization. The event was organized to provide an inside view to career opportunities and candid conversations to help the youth understand what’s needed to reach their career goals.
During the event registration, the participants were asked what professions they were interested in, and in turn, P.U.S.H. found experts in those fields to come and have open conversations with the teens. The highlights of the event were the two dynamic speakers – Educator, Dr. Jake Golden and Director of Diversity and Employee Engagement, Mrs. Jo Anne Hill who spoke about their own career path challenges and successes.
The youngest participant’s mom, Clarissa Barron, shared these sentiments about her son Aidan Brown, “My son volunteered at the P.U.S.H. event and ended up having a great time. He told me afterwards that he now understands that planning a large event takes a lot of people and hard work.” Another parent was so moved by the event and the insight her child received that she shed tears.
All and all the event hosted 55 participants, and the kids not only received career insight, but many of them received volunteer hours and on-the-job experience. The career professionals were equally impressed by the evening’s outcome, the eagerness of the youth and the overall concept. The biggest complaint of the evening . . . everyone wanted MORE!
